E-commerce reaches 3.32% of Romania’s GDP in 2024, while Greece is the leader in the Central and Eastern Europe region with 7.87%, according to data provided by the Bulgarian eCommerce Association.
While the European average is around 4-5%, Bulgaria has more room for growth, with only 2.34% of its GDP in 2024 being derived from eCommerce.
“While the contribution of e-commerce to GDP across Europe is flat at around 5%, we see a lot of room for growth in Bulgaria, a faster catch-up in Romania, as well as an above-average performance in Greece. Traffic, sales, trends and many other relevant industry information will be available at the largest regional eCommerce event, which we will host in Sofia in April – Balkan eCommerce Summit,” says Nikola Ilchev, founder of Balkan eCommerce Summit.
Balkan eCommerce Summit 2025 has evolved into the leading event for digital commerce in the region. Much more than just a meeting, this annual summit acts as a lever for cross-border collaborations and transformational opportunities, redefining and elevating the e-commerce ecosystem in the Balkans.
Sofia is poised to become the center of e-commerce partnerships and development in the Balkans. On April 29-30, Arena Sofia will host one of the largest e-commerce events in the region. The summit will bring together leading companies in marketing and logistics, payment services, banks, FinTech industry leaders, along with SaaS and AI solutions, in a large-scale exhibition that will bring together more than 200 companies, each of which will present their services and seek long-term partnerships.
The combination of seasoned professionals and innovative thinkers ensures a rich exchange of ideas, making the summit a breeding ground for bold and actionable strategies. This year’s summit raises the bar with hands-on workshops, interactive discussions and sessions that challenge innovation in AI-driven e-commerce and cross-border opportunities.
