Amira Learning specializes in using artificial intelligence to enhance literacy outcomes by integrating the Science of Reading with AI technology. The company’s platform provides real-time tutoring and individualized reading plans, supporting school districts in improving literacy rates. The appointment of Scholz aligns with Amira’s objective to broaden its impact on students needing reading intervention.
Mark Angel, Founder and CEO of Amira Learning, emphasized the significance of the appointment. He said:
“Amy is a huge addition to our team. Her impressive career, spanning teaching to helping build the world’s most successful edtech firms, is the perfect preparation for making Amira the new standard in reading software. Her expertise will be instrumental in bringing Amira to millions more students in urgent need of a proven literacy solution.”
Scholz brings more than 20 years of experience in education and technology leadership. She began her career as a first-grade teacher and reading specialist, where she identified challenges in early literacy and the need for enhanced intervention tools for educators. Her experiences led her to pursue further studies in early reading intervention and computer science. Over the years, she has held executive positions at several leading education technology firms, including Curriculum Associates, Imagine Learning, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and Wiley, where she contributed to the development and implementation of digital learning solutions.
Beyond her professional roles, Scholz has served on multiple education-focused boards, including Reach Out and Read and Subject, reinforcing her long-standing commitment to literacy and educational equity.
Amy Scholz, Chief Operating Officer of Amira Learning, said:
“I’ve always believed that every student can be a reader, but also grounded in the realization of how challenging learning to read can be for so many kids for so many reasons. The will and the strategies were often available, but the technology never fully met the moment. That’s why I’m so excited to join Amira Learning where innovations in AI combined with the Science of Reading are responsibly transforming the lives of millions of students. It’s an honor to be part of a team dedicated to driving this mission forward.”
Amira Learning has received investment from Owl Ventures, an edtech-focused venture capital firm. Amit A. Patel, Managing Director at Owl Ventures and Co-Chairman of Amira Learning, expressed support for Scholz’s appointment, saying:
“Amy’s expertise is a perfect complement to Amira’s innovative approach in improving reading outcomes. Owl Ventures is a proud investor in Amira’s groundbreaking work, and we look forward to seeing Amira have an even greater impact on literacy under her guidance.”
