Davis Wright Tremaine (DWT) has announced an alliance with CodeX, the well-known legal tech centre at Stanford University in California. Together they will conduct research and ‘prototype advanced AI tools’.
Dr. Megan Ma, associate director at CodeX – who has spoken at the Legal Innovators California conference, which returns to San Francisco this June 11 and 12 – said: ‘DWT has a longstanding commitment to innovation and an eagerness to try new things. We are very pleased to establish an affiliate relationship with the firm and excited to see what we can accomplish together.’
DWT’s internal R&D unit, known as DWT De Novo, will manage the relationship with CodeX. De Novo also has a new leader, Dan Szabo, who has become Senior Director of Innovation, and is ‘a highly experienced platform architect, engineering manager, and business strategist’, who has helped spearhead AI projects at the firm.
Szabo commented: ‘DWT De Novo was founded on the principle that integrating the right people, processes, and technology can unlock next-generation performance, and as such is perfectly formulated for this moment in the legal industry. AI can be utterly transformative.’
He added: ‘The energy around AI adoption at our firm is significant and growing. Just this month, a hundred DWT volunteers stepped up to help quality-check a new platform we’ve developed that will be a true game-changer in the immigration space and beyond. I’m very excited about what this year will bring.’
And Brent Goff, chief information officer at DWT, concluded: ‘CodeX is synonymous with multi-disciplinary innovation on the frontier of legal technology. The dynamic team at CodeX has spent years finding extraordinary ways to solve problems and bring our industry into the future. We look forward to joining forces with them to create ground-breaking products and processes that will delight our clients and keep us ahead of the competition.’
A great initiative and good to see more law firms working on legal AI development projects.
