Data Privacy Week, Information Technology Services offers these tips to keep
in mind when using AI:

Comply with University policy. Don’t enter WVU data into generative AI tools
unless the software you are using was approved through the
IT Purchase Request process. The University also published these
guidelines to address the use of AI.

Don’t enter your personal information. AI models “learn” from what they’re given,
so don’t hand over your personal information or anyone else’s.

Read the privacy notice. The company might be able to see your chats, even if
they’re anonymized. Be sure that you are comfortable with the data it collects.

Consider the future effects. It might be fun to upload pictures of yourself to
generative AI but remember the company may keep your pictures. Again, read

Stay informed. Keep up with the latest news and updates about AI technologies. Being informed can help you make better decisions about the tools you use.
