The UK has announced plans to make it illegal to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create child sexual abuse images, positioning itself as the first country to introduce such specific AI-related offenses, according to a Reuters report. This move comes in response to the rising concern over the use of AI in creating disturbing and explicit material, particularly images that manipulate real-life photos of children. The new legislation will explicitly target the use of AI technologies to “nudeify” real children’s images, further expanding the legal tools available to fight such heinous acts. This is particularly pressing as reports indicate…

While the race towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and beyond will be expensive for many large tech companies, numerous business opportunities exist for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to capitalise on AI. This area is no longer exclusive to big corporations; anyone with the knowledge to utilise AI can build small businesses that leverage AI. AI can be used to create customised software-as-a-service (SaaS) products, such as data analysis tools, chatbots, and customer onboarding platforms, tailored to specific industries. Following are some examples of its potential business cases. Data is a crucial asset for any business, but many struggle to use its full…
Coeur d’Alene is the latest in a handful of Idaho districts to roll out artificial intelligence tools for teachers and consider guiding students to use the technology responsibly. At a school board workshop last week, Seth Deniston, deputy superintendent of operations, said he understood the initial instinct to block AI tools from school computers and discourage student use. Many in education said “Let’s block it right now” when ChatGBT released its’ public generative AI beta in 2022, Deniston noted. “I think that’s kind of a mistake,” Deniston said. “The ethics of AI is one of the things I want to most…
The budget unveiled its biggest surprise towards the end — an income tax exemption for income up to Rs 12 lakh per annum. A significant move like this is expected to create an essential boost in consumption. To reiterate my thoughts on last year’s interim budget, ring-fencing India’s consumptionled growth story must be a priority, as our household consumption spending and GDP growth have historically moved in tandem. Thus, increasing household disposable income will stimulate broad-based consumption growth, especially in the sluggish retail sector. Reviving middle-income spending, mainly focusing on the youth and women, is crucial for sustaining the Indian story. However,…
