If you are a journalist using artificial intelligence (AI) tools to help your daily work, chances are you have used tools developed by companies with unclear transparency about ownership, finances, and other critical data. This conclusion emerges from a recent report published by the Media and Journalism Research Centre (MJRC), an independent think tank, investigating 100 companies behind the AI tools most commonly used and recommended by journalists. According to the research, only 33 per cent of the companies are transparent about who owns and finances them, whereas 67 per cent of the companies fail to adequately disclose related information.…
Created by CNBC Brand StudioEmbracing technology can have a meaningful impact on small businesses and help them stay competitive in a challenging economic environment. A recent study found that U.S. small businesses using eight or more digital tools to manage different departments are almost twice as likely to report revenue growth and almost three times more likely to have expanded their workforce compared to small businesses using up to two digital tools.“The future is coming so fast. In many ways, it’s here,” says Ashok Srivastava, Intuit’s senior vice president and chief data officer, discussing Intuit Assist, a new generative AI…
Credit: Unsplash/CC0 Public Domain Generative AI, a technology that is developing at breakneck speed, may carry hidden risks that could erode public trust and democratic values, according to a study led by the University of East Anglia (UEA). In collaboration with researchers from the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) and Insper, both in Brazil, the research showed that ChatGPT exhibits biases in both text and image outputs—leaning toward left-wing political values—raising questions about fairness and accountability in its design. The study revealed that ChatGPT often declines to engage with mainstream conservative viewpoints while readily producing left-leaning content. This uneven treatment of…
Many teachers have found A.I. applications helpful in reducing their workload. AFP via Getty Images Teacher burnout is a problem. In the past 12 years, 16 percent of teachers in the U.S. left their jobs each year and half of that cohort left education entirely, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. With the average quit rate across industries in the U.S. at just below 2 percent, this number is stark. “I’m sure I’m not telling you anything new when I say teachers quit physically, emotionally and mentally exhausted,” Eileen Yaeger, a middle school history and science teacher at Fairfax…
At Meta, we continue to prioritize transparency and responsibility in our advertiser guardrails. Starting last year, we began labeling ads that were created or significantly edited using our generative AI creative features, which are available in our advertiser marketing tools. I’ll explain below how we developed our approach and how the system works. We’re Listening and Learning We’ve worked with experts, policy stakeholders and industry partners around the world to develop our approach. We recognize that the transparency expectations around generative AI are rapidly evolving, and we are committed to providing clear information about how our generative AI tools contribute…
By Megan Weis. Productivity gains will accelerate U.S. economic growth this year, according to the chief economist at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This acceleration is driven by more business use of AI to address worker shortages and make employees more productive. That increased productivity has the potential to enhance growth, wages and profit margins. With talent shortages driving AI adoption, it’s not surprising that many companies are also continuing to outsource business processes or even increasing their outsourcing to overcome staffing issues. The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) market will exceed $152 billion in revenue this year, driven in part…
Over the holidays, I had an interesting conversation with a family member who shared a perspective that stuck with me. In their organization, they noticed some colleagues fluffing up project management software—checking off tasks, updating statuses—to create the appearance of busyness. Yet, they’ve chosen not to let it bother them, focusing instead on what truly matters: building a great product. Their philosophy was simple: project management software doesn’t build a product — people do. As someone who has seen how AI tools like ChatGPT have transformed the way we plan and create presentations, I couldn’t help but reflect on this.…
Israel’s Education Ministry on Monday announced a plan to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the country’s education system, News.az reports citing Xinhua. Designed for students in grades 4 to 12, this plan encompasses teacher training, the development of innovative content, and the integration of specialized AI tools into classrooms, according to a ministry statement. AI tools set to be applied include a training bot for AI fundamentals, a chatbot powered by Google’s Gemini, the MagicSchool platform for lesson planning and student assessment, and a Minecraft-based sandbox game interface for lower grades. As part of the initiative, the ministry enlisted over…
Here’s how content marketing used to work: Create great content for your website, and you would attract the attention of potential customers. But with artificial intelligence (AI) rewriting the rules, what happens when this basic principle no longer applies? That’s when you throw out the playbook, again, and adopt a new content marketing strategy that won’t have you competing with AI but rather, working with it. But first, let’s talk about what’s changed. Drowned Out in the Flood of AI-Generated Content Since the ChatGPT boom began, low-quality, AI-generated content has started to flood search results. AI tools make it easy…
